| The day after Monday’s winter storm proved exceptionally busy for the Monelison Fire Department, which responded to 14 calls for service by 7:00 p.m. on January 26, 2026.
Icy, snow‑covered road conditions created significant challenges throughout the region. Monelison crews assisted Amherst Fire and Rescue multiple times with accessing patients who required transportation to area hospitals. Firefighters utilized a combination of 4x4 vehicles and stokes baskets to safely move patients from difficult‑to‑reach locations to waiting ambulances.
In addition, units A21 and T21 responded to a vehicle fire off River Road. Crews quickly brought the incident under control.
Throughout the day, the department also responded to three separate motor vehicle accidents, all related to hazardous road conditions.
The Monelison Fire Department reminds residents to use caution when traveling, allow extra time on the roads, and avoid unnecessary travel during and after winter weather events. |
