| Members of the Monelison Volunteer Fire Department recently gathered at Virginia Auto Parts for a full-day extrication training and equipment demonstration hosted in partnership with Fire & Safety Equipment of Concord. The event provided firefighters with seven hours of hands-on experience using the latest generation of extrication tools and stabilization equipment. During the training, crews practiced a variety of vehicle extrication scenarios designed to simulate real‑world emergencies. Firefighters were able to operate advanced battery-powered rescue tools—representing a major evolution from the traditional hydraulic systems that required hose lines connected to apparatus. The new tools, powered by the same rechargeable batteries used in common brands such as DeWalt and Milwaukee, demonstrated both mobility and exceptional cutting strength. Fire department members successfully cut through a boron-reinforced pillar on a late‑model Volkswagen, showcasing the improved power of modern extrication equipment. Personnel also trained with the newest stabilization struts, allowing them to safely secure vehicles resting on their roofs or sides before performing rescue operations. “This was a tremendous opportunity for our members to work with cutting-edge technology and strengthen our skills in complex extrication scenarios,” said Chief J. Malott. “Training like this ensures we are prepared to respond quickly and safely when our community needs us most.” The Monelison Volunteer Fire Department extends its sincere gratitude to the following partners whose support made this training possible: * Virginia Auto Parts — for providing the training location and donating vehicles for hands-on practice “Our department is incredibly fortunate to have strong community partners who help us continue to train, grow, and serve,” the statement continued. |
