| At approximately 9:10 p.m. Monelison Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire on Elon Road. EMS 1 from Amherst Fire and EMS was the first unit to arrive and reported smoke and active fire showing from the rear of the residence. Upon arrival, EMS 1 established incident command. Engine 21 arrived shortly thereafter as the first-in engine company and deployed two attack lines to the rear of the structure. Fire crews worked quickly to contain and extinguish the fire, which was primarily located on the second floor at the rear of the residence. Additional support was provided by Amherst Fire and Pedlar Fire, with tanker shuttles established to supply water to Engine 21 due to the absence of nearby hydrants. The Amherst County Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire. Due to freezing temperatures, VDOT was requested to salt the roadway for scene safety and assist with establishing a detour around the incident area. |
