| On Thursday, September 3rd, at approximately 5:43 p.m., all Amherst County fire departments, including Amherst Fire, Monelison Fire, Pedlar Fire, and Amherst Fire & EMS, were dispatched to a commercial structure fire reported at PCA Riverville. Initial reports indicated that the fire was located outside the building, on the back pad, and involved bales of cardboard. Upon arrival, fire crews found multiple cardboard bales on fire. Additional units from Appomattox Fire and Concord Fire were requested for their ladder trucks. However, it was determined before their arrival that these resources would not be necessary. Hydrants on the premises provided the significant water supply needed to fight the fire. The flames were contained to the cardboard bales with no spread to nearby structures or woodland. The extreme heat presented additional challenges during firefighting efforts, but because the incident was outdoors, some of the protective equipment requirements were able to be modified to assist responders. No injuries were reported, and the fire was brought under control. Fire units were cleared from the scene at around 12:30 a.m. Photo Credits: Mark Luther Photos |
