Madison Heights, VA — On the evening of May 12, 2025, at approximately 9:39 p.m., the Monelison Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on South Amherst Highway in Madison Heights. Engine 22 responded to the scene and discovered a single vehicle had collided with a telephone pole.

The impact of the crash caused the pole to snap in multiple locations. Fortunately, the resulting damage only disrupted power to a nearby gas station directly in front of the collision site. The vehicle’s sole occupant was promptly treated on scene by Amherst County Fire and EMS personnel.

Appalachian Power (AEP) was notified and responded to assess the damage. At AEP’s request, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) was called in to shut down one lane of traffic to facilitate the safe replacement of the damaged pole.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office.
