Madison Heights, VA — On Monday, May 26, 2025, at approximately 11:26 a.m., the Monelison Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident involving a car and a deer on the Route 29 Bypass. Engine 21 and Chief 2 responded promptly to the scene. Fortunately, the driver, who was traveling back to North Carolina, was uninjured. Accompanying her were her two dogs, Mila and Peppy. However, the vehicle sustained significant damage and was rendered undriveable. While on scene, responders learned that the driver’s husband was en route to assist, but his arrival would be delayed by several hours. In a gesture of compassion and community spirit, the Monelison crew brought the driver and her two dogs back to the fire station to wait in comfort and safety. During their stay, the driver requested a few photos of Mila and Peppy in front of the fire truck to commemorate the unexpected turn in their Memorial Day journey. The department was happy to oblige, turning a stressful situation into a memorable moment. The Monelison Volunteer Fire Department is proud to serve not only in times of emergency but also in moments of kindness and care. |
