At approximately 2:00 PM, the Monelison Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Route 163 and 210 following reports of smoke in the vicinity.

Engine 21 (E21) responded to the scene and confirmed visible smoke near 163. Amherst County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a ground search but were unable to pinpoint the source of the smoke.

To assist in the investigation, E21 deployed Drone 21 in the area of Main Street. Utilizing the drone’s thermal imaging camera, firefighters were able to identify the exact location of the smoke within minutes.

Chief 2 proceeded to the identified address and made contact with the homeowner. After a brief discussion, it was determined that the smoke originated from a controlled burn on the property.
