| The Monelison Volunteer Fire Department is proud to announce its participation in Fire Prevention Week, which runs from October 5–11, 2025. In preparation for this important week, department members have been assembling goodie bags for children in local schools to help promote fire safety awareness in a fun and engaging way. Each goodie bag includes a coloring book, bracelet, badge, and sticker, all designed to spark interest and conversation around fire prevention. These will be distributed during school visits, where firefighters will speak directly with students about how to stay safe in the event of a fire and how to prevent fires from happening in the first place. "Teaching fire prevention to children is one of the most important things we do," said Firefighter S. Mays. "When kids understand the basics—like stop, drop, and roll, or how to safely exit a home—they’re not just protecting themselves, they’re helping keep their families and communities safe too." Fire Prevention Week is a national initiative aimed at educating the public about fire safety and reducing the risk of fire-related injuries and fatalities. The Monelison Volunteer Fire Department encourages families to talk about fire safety at home and to participate in local events throughout the week. |
