| At approximately 4:50 AM today, Fire Department units responded to a brush fire involving approximately two acres of mostly wooded terrain and seven round bales of hay. Responding units included Brush 21, Tanker 21, Attack 21, and Engine 23, along with mutual aid from Amherst Fire and EMS units 800 and 806. Forestry units 3 and 4 also assisted with a dozer on scene.
Upon arrival, crews found the fire actively burning and quickly worked to contain and extinguish it. The fire is believed to have originated from an unattended burn conducted the previous evening.
We would like to remind residents that **now is not a safe time to burn outdoors**. Weather conditions over the coming days are expected to include **low humidity and high winds**, which significantly increase the risk of fire spread. Even a controlled burn can become **uncontrolled very quickly** under these conditions.
Please exercise caution and follow all local burn regulations. Your cooperation helps keep our community safe. |
