| At approximately 1642 hours Monelison Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle fire at a residence on Mountainview Drive. Upon arrival, Monelison Unit 121 reported that the engine compartment was fully engulfed. Squad 21, Engine 21, and Chief 2 responded and quickly extinguished the fire.
After units cleared the scene, another vehicle fire was dispatched, around 1712 hours in the area of South Monacan Parkway just before the 210 exit. Chief 2 arrived and advised that a work truck was on fire, with a 1000-gallon propane tank on the back. The fire was spreading up the rear of the vehicle into nearby woodland. Additional units were requested from Amherst Fire and Pedlar Fire. Squad 21, Engine 21, Tanker 21, Attack 21, Engine 23, Amherst County Chief Beam, and EMS Captain 806 arrived shortly after Chief 2. Command was transferred to Chief Beam. Response efforts focused on managing the vehicle fire and cooling the propane tank. Attack 21, Amherst Fire, and Pedlar Fire were assigned to contain and extinguish the brush fire. Units from Concord Fire were later disregarded after the situation was brought under control by personnel on scene.
All agencies worked together effectively to manage multiple incidents in the area. Job well done and great teamwork! |
